Drop-In Wednesdays

Individuals who require a bit more flexibility in attending White Pines Academy are invited to participate in the Wednesday component of our Success Through Structure Program.

Drop-In Wednesday Offers:

• Flexible attendance with no long-term commitment
• To join, email the Program Director by 5 pm on the Monday of the same week to reserve your spot
• Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged
   

Please Note:

Those attending Drop-In Wednesdays only will engage in a social, fun, and naturalistic learning environment. Activities are guided by the ABLLS-R and AFLS skill assessments; however, individual assessments, personalized goal setting, and progress reports are not provided in this option. If you are seeking these features, please see our Success Through Structure program.

Lesson Themes Include:

• Social Skills Development
• Communication Skills (verbal, PECS, Proloquo2Go)
• Following rules and using manners in public
• Hygiene awareness
• Calendar concepts: days, months, seasons, and years
• Turn-taking
• Arts and Crafts
• Cooking/baking and following instructions/recipes
• Music
• Community Outings
• Safety in the Community
• Exercise
• Learning emotions and self-regulation strategies using The Zones of Regulation
   

Support and Staffing:

• The staff-to-student ratio is typically 1:3 or 1:4, depending on student needs and supervision requirements.
• WPA is supported by peer mentors, community volunteers, and college students completing placements throughout the year.
• 1:1 support is available for an additional cost.
   

Eligibility:

• Prospective students must not exhibit aggressive or highly disruptive behaviors.
• Support is available for students who cannot fully use the washroom independently. This support may vary during community outings depending on the level of assistance required and the location visited.
